Which Bark Siding Look Is For You?
10/08/2009
When bark shingles are installed upon a structure, usually one of two styles of installation are used- an even look or a staggered look. Both desings are used, and they appeal to different individuals and situations. The purpose of this news article is to make the reader aware of the different ways poplar bark siding can be installed.
More common than staggered, the even row style is what most consumers like. Even row is an elegant look, and it quite common on higher end houses. The look is easily accomplished by simply lining the bark cladding up to a chalk line. If you are planning an expensive house that might include rock work combined with other type siding along with bark siding, then the even row is probably for you. Or even an elegant house with full bark coverage would probably look best with even row bark siding.
The staggered look of poplar bark siding gives the structure a more rustic and antique look. You can imagine the old timers putting it up that way due to the ease and less labor it would take to create the even look. Normally we've seen the staggered look on cabins, rustic structures, and often just simply used in a gable or such. The staggered look is accomplished by shifting the next and next bark shingles off of the center chalk line. This can be done by eye, or some people like to create a center line with a maximum and minimum stagger line.
Regardless of which you look you prefer to use, bark shingles will look superb in either case. Before you decide which style of bark rows you will use, take a look at our Home Portfolio page for examples of both styles.
